Use direct messages and team channels, and understand the unread number beside Messages in your sidebar.

Keep in touch with your team

Messages is available when your organisation grants messaging access. Conversations and unread counts belong to your account and organisation.

Step 1: Choose a conversation

  1. Select Messages in the sidebar.
  2. Choose a person for a direct message, or a channel for a group conversation. Use the contact search to find a name or channel.
  3. All Staff is the general team channel. The Managers channel is for Managers and Admins. Custom channels appear according to membership and management access.

Step 2: Send your message

  1. Type your message in the selected conversation.
  2. Select the send button and check that your message appears in the conversation.

Step 3: Clear unread messages by reading them

  1. The number beside Messages in the sidebar counts unread incoming messages. Larger totals display as 99+.
  2. Open the relevant conversation and view its latest messages. Read status is saved when the conversation is visible.
  3. Opening only the contact list on mobile does not mark a conversation read. Background tabs also do not clear unread messages.

For Managers and Admins: create a channel

  1. Select the create-channel button beside the channels heading.
  2. Enter a Channel name, choose its Members, then select Create.

If the unread number stays visible

Check your connection and reopen the conversation. A failed read-status save leaves the messages unread so they are not lost. Older conversations may initially appear unread until opened.
